In addition to services provided for acute care hospitals, Traction Specialists has developed comprehensive hands-on orthopedic traction seminars. This special program is presented in two sessions. We begin with hands-on traction setup training. The training covers techniques in the following traction systems: Overhead frame (Single and double frames), Buck’s, Sling suspensions, Russell’s and Split Russell’s, Cervical (skin and skeletal), Balanced Suspensions, including skeletal traction (both Thomas splint with Pearson attachment, and sling setups), and Complex Bilateral skeletal traction. Following the introductory seminar and implemented within is a very special program designed especially for the nursing staff. This training addresses the care and maintenance of patients in traction. Some of these techniques taught are: skeletal traction pin care to prevent bone or skin infections, how to properly rotate a patient, position bed pans, change sheets, along with many additional necessary care and maintenance techniques for the complex skeletal systems. Kurt Fuhrmann, BA, JD Kurt Fuhrmann is a graduate of UCLA and has furthermore earned the status of Juris doctor( law degree). He founded and developed Traction Specialists, Ltd. approximately 25 years ago. Kurt’s years of experience with orthopedics in acute care hospitals, home patients, and the movie industry, has provided him insight in order to create a more efficient and quality of care in in the treatment of traction set-ups; including the development of orthopedic products to better address the specific needs of the medical establishments and their patients. Mr. Fuhrmann also helps students who are trying to get into the medical field. He trains each and every technician at Traction Specialist providing them with the necessary qualifications to further pursue careers in the medical field as physical therapists, physicians assistants, nursing, and or doctors. He also works side by side with Orthopedic physicians during surgery to further his education to better care for patients to align fractures of proximal hips, femoral fractures, closing pelvic fractures and neck fractures . His legal training coupled with his medical knowledge catapulted his educational career by expanding his services into film and television, and of course his specialty in educational seminars.
Kathleen Krein, RN, ACLS Kathleen Krein is a registered nurse licensed in California, Montana and Oregon. Some of her areas of specialty are in ICU/CCU, ER and Psychiatry, although she has expanded her nursing abilities to other areas, such as, burn units and neonatal ICU. She has spent the majority of her career working in acute care hospitals, and for the last several years, has worked in psychiatry, working at a Maximum Security Forensic Mental Health facility in California and a Mental Facility in the state of Montana. She has taught substance abuse and medication management. She currently holds an ACLS certification.
